Art Club

Welcome back Roadhaven artists for another wonderful season! We are looking forward to again offering art classes for different mediums and having fun developing your creative styles!

We will have open painting in the art studio until January and then develop a class schedule.  Due to the Covid pandemic, we are limited to 12 people at a time, require face masks, and practice social distancing.  A fee is charged for certain workshops and classes.  In order to utilize the Art Room, you must first be a member of the Art Club.  Membership is $15.00 per year and membership forms will be in the Activity Office.  Information on classes will be posted on our information board outside the Art Room.

We look forward to seeing old friends and new faces. It is always fun to see other people’s creations and be inspired to try something new!

Bocce Ball

This season at Roadhaven will be a bit different as we make the health and safety of our members a top priority. We ask that you make every effort to follow the protocols established by the Board. We thank you in advance as we look forward to the 2021 season.  Kudos to Jim Zimmerman and Paul Murawski for setting up and all those volunteers that make our organization run so smoothly.

Want to Practice your Bocce skills?

Casual Play on the Bocce Courts is now available.  Safety recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic are posted on the Bulletin Board at the courts and below.

DUE TO COVID-19

Please follow these safety measures:

* No person should play or be a spectator if they feel sick, have any symptoms of COVID-19 identified by the CDC, or test positive for COVID-19.

* Players and spectators must always maintain social distancing of 6 ft. A maximum of 50 people will be allowed in the bocce court area.

* Masks must be worn by all players and spectators, covering the nose and mouth when a 6 ft distancing requirement cannot be met. Judges for each game should be especially aware of the 6 ft. requirement due to the closeness typically required when determining points in a game.

* Please use the Sanitizer provided to sanitize any equipment you will be using before and after use.

* Those not playing in the current game are asked to bring their own chairs, keeping them 6 ft from others, not in the same family group.

* Please sign the provided list if you will be using the Bocce Courts or to reserve time on the courts.  If there are others waiting to use the courts, limit your time to one hour. Courts may be reserved up to one week in advance of play.  This will help us know how often the courts are in use.

Register Your Team

Team Captains – registration forms went out by email mid-October.  Please complete and return the registration sheet for your team by December 15 to get your team entered in your day & time slot for play.  If you are not able to open the form from the email sent to all Team Captains, forms will be available at the Bocce Court Bulletin Board.  The League fee of $15 per player will be due by January 1.

If you are not playing this year, please let us know you will not be playing in 2021, and if you are planning to resume play in 2022.  Send email to

rhbocceball@gmail.com .

Also posted at the Bocce Court Bulletin Board will be a signup sheet for anyone looking for a team.

Bowling League

Attention league bowlers:

By majority vote, there will be no bowling league for the 2021 bowling season. We hope and pray to see you all back in 2022 healthy and safe.

Respectfully.

Church

Lamentations 3: 22-23

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.  Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

After pouring out his grief and despair at the ruin of Jerusalem and its people the writer dares to hope when he remembers Jesus and his love of us.  When we are in an awful time, we can take hope in Jesus’ faithful love and mercy.

Sunday School is doing a study called “Deepening Life Together” starting at 9 o’clock Sunday mornings at the Rec Hall.  Julia and Jerry Jones are hoping to start Christian Fellowship in January after they arrive.  It would be on the 2nd and 4th Mondays and go through March.  Pastor Jack has resigned, and we will greatly miss him.

May the Lord bless you,

Carol Henningsen, Church secretary

Christian Fellowship

Christian Fellowship had a successful season last year at Roadhaven. We are planning on trying to have our Christian Fellowship meetings again this year, only we will be meeting twice a month, not four. We are not planning on having potluck meals.

The Dakota Room is reserved for the second & fourth Monday nights of each month, starting with January 12th through March 22, 2021. Meetings will start at 7 p.m. We can have 14 people in the Dakota Room at each meeting.

Our first meeting will be casual with a short program & making plans for future meetings. We are looking forward to seeing all of you again & having some good Christian Fellowship.

Shalom, Jerry & Julia Jones, Chairman

Creative Crafts

As we enter another month, our sewing room has been pretty quiet.  So many of our members are not able to join us this season or will not arrive until after the holidays.  Their absence is truly missed by our Creative Crafts family.

Those of us that are here have been working on placemats for Meals on Wheels and pillowcases that are distributed with pajamas for the Christmas Pajama Drive.  We are currently working on a schedule for classes.

We encourage everyone to join us for Show and Tell on Friday mornings at 9:00 in the Recreation Hall.  It is a great opportunity to meet our members and learn about creative crafts.

Fitness Club

Roadhaven’s well-equipped Wellness/Fitness Center is located to the West of the main entrance of the Cantina.  It’s open daily, albeit with restricted hours and a limit on the numbers allowed to workout at any one time.  The Fitness Club manages the facility and pays for equipment maintenance and purchases new equipment with funds collected from membership fees.  To join the club, complete an entry form found just inside the door, and mail it as indicated in the in-park mail.  Annual fees are $25 for singles or $40 for couples.  2019/2020 memberships are good until the end of the year. Contact us at roadhavenfitness@gmail.com

If your step count has barely gotten out of the double digits, and your workouts are infrequent at best because you’ve been on the couch watching too much news of late, don’t get too down on yourself.  Resume your daily walks, and if you can’t get to a gym, make an effort to workout at home.  Floor exercises are a good place to start, that is if you can first get down on the floor, and then can get back up without having to call emergency services for assistance.  Lying flat on your back with your arms by your side, raise your legs and arms a few inches and hold for the count of 10.  Then move onto your stomach, extend your arms over your head, raise your arms and legs and hold.  Congratulations, you’ve started and you’re done.

Glass Crafters

Season’s Greetings! Welcome to all who have returned to Roadhaven.  We look forward to seeing all of you coming after the New Year.  The shop is now open and rules are posted.  Masks are required, a limit of 5 people at a time in the shop, and social distancing is encouraged.  Please follow the recommended virus guidelines, which will help us keep the shop open during this season.  Sign-up sheets are available for the allotted spaces.  Keep in mind that many members want to use the shop and with the limited space available, we need to be considerate of others.  Classes are forming now, please check in the shop for sign-up sheets. Yearly membership is $15.  Stop by and check us out.

Hospitality & Promotions

We want to wish all residents of Roadhaven a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

We hope you are all safe & healthy wherever you have decided to spend this year.  If you are interested in property in Roadhaven we encourage you to check out the Roadhaven website under Real Estate.

The hospitality email is hospitalityandinfo@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Take care and all the best of the holiday season!!

Karaoke Fun

Do you enjoy Christmas music?  Then come to the Rec Hall Tuesday afternoons this month from 2:00 till 5:00 and sing along or reminisce while listening to some of your favorites like “O Holy Night”, “Here Comes Santa Claus”, “Silver Bells” (It’s Christmas time in ROADHAVEN!),  “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”, and, of course, your favorite classics and some newer ditties in any genre.  Come to be surprised!  Did you know that you may make a song request?

We warmly welcome new voices and encourage “Karaoke Virgins”.    M J has a special badge for you.  We all remember that first experience!   During the 1:30 set-up, you may try out your selection(s), and Gene will help you decide which key best suits your voice range.

Follow the protocols for everyone’s safety.  Wear your mask and keep your 6-foot distance.  Leave the chairs where you find them. The tables will be sanitized before the start of Karaoke and again before we leave the hall. While the previous singer is entertaining, go to the “on deck” chair to use the sanitizer so you’re ready when the song ends.  The mic will be sanitized after each number.  The performance area will be a safe distance from the audience, so you may sing without the mask.

Bring a friend, your drink, and snacks (Don’t share during this unusual time.), and enjoy this season of good cheer!  Merry Christmas! Ho! Ho! Ho!  Karen Woodwick

Men’s Golf League

Come join the 35 men that have joined the Men’s League as of November 12th.

Men’s League Golf has a plan to keep our members safe during the pandemic.  The information on how we plan to operate is posted on the Men’s bulletin board in the clubhouse hallway. We are in a learning process, but all and all things went well on our first day of the league.

League started on November 12^th and runs through the end of March.  We offer 9 hole tee times at 8, 9:30, and 11.  18-hole tee times are available at 8 and 11 each Thursday.  Men’s club has a yearly one-time $10 fee, $5 of which goes to our “hole in one” fund, which is divided between members who get a “hole in one” during league play or one of our tournaments.  The other $5 is used to offset some of the expense of our social functions.  Last season saw 154 men joining Men’s league with 5 guys getting a “hole in one”.  Congrats to Greg Fisher, Carl Graham, Vern Welzien, Fred Christians, and Jerry Brown. Hard to beat what Carl did, he got his hole in one on his first swing during Men’s league golf. We sponsor a 2-day club tournament in March and a match play tournament starting in January.

Can’t play each Thursday, no problem, play the Thursdays that work for you.    Each Thursday that a member plays it costs $2 which we use for prize money.  We flight members according to their Roadhaven handicap with the goal of a payout to approximately 25 percent of the week’s players.  Take a look at the posted winner’s sheets on the Men’s bulletin board in the clubhouse to see an example of how we fly and payout.  Handicap flighting puts everyone on an even keel.  The inexperienced golfer has just as much of a chance of winning as the experienced golfer.

Join the men’s golf league and enjoy competitive/social golf on one of the best-kept courses in the valley.  Sign up on one of the weekly tee timesheets (on the men’s bulletin board in the clubhouse hallway) before Wednesday noon. We’ll let you know who you are playing with and your starting hole (shotgun start) on Wednesday evening for Thursday’s Men’s league.

Pickleball Club

Welcome back to Roadhaven. Things at Roadhaven might be a little different this 2020-2021 season. People are starting to come back eager for some sun, warm temps, and Pickleball. We are also pleased to see some brave souls from Canada showing up. We also understand if they decide to stay home this year. We will be having more get together functions at the court area because of the Covid-19 restrictions. Thanks to Claudia Jameson and Linda Crossen for stepping up to help fill two executive positions. Claudia is taking on the treasurer, and Linda is going to do the secretary position. We are hoping to start our regular schedule on December 1. Memberships are $25.00 per person for the season. Short term membership is two weeks or less at $10.00. Membership entitles you to play all scheduled playtimes plus special events. Membership forms are at the court and in the Activity Office. Pickleball meetings will be Wednesday at 9 am. We welcome all people interested in learning about this fun game. If

you are new to Roadhaven and want to learn a fun game and meet some new friends come on down to the courts. Beginner lessons have started.

Softball

Welcome back to all interested slow-pitch softball players for another season!

Normally we enter Roadhaven teams in 55+, 65+ & 70+ leagues as well as Tournaments based on player availability. The fall league usually commences in mid-November on Mondays. We invite any interested players to come out & join in the fun & friendly competition.

The batting cage will be set up in late October for players to warm up for the season. The cage is also accessible to all Roadhaven residents by contacting a member of the RSA for access & accompaniment.

The RSA serves as a valuable park-wide group not only for the provision of recreational activities but equally as important provides many hours of labor in the setup & teardown for activities & events being held in the Rec Hall & in handling the aluminum can recycling program in our Park. We appreciate the participation of all RSA members in these valuable contributions to our community.

To learn more about Roadhaven Softball or any specifics about leagues, practices, games & membership, please visit the RSA website under Activities/Clubs or contact any member as listed. We look forward to seeing you out this season whether as a player or spectator.

Time Out

The new season for Time Out is upon us again.  The purpose of the Time Out organization is to relieve residents of Roadhaven who are giving care to a spouse, or relative that is either terminally ill or undergoing temporary health problems.  The “Time Out” group will relieve the caregivers who either need to run errands, purchase groceries, pick up prescriptions, or just get away for a few hours.

Our primary goal is to provide support to the caregiver and to spend the necessary time with his or her spouse, friend, or relative so that the caregiver can get some personal time away from his or her duties as the primary caregiver.

If interested in volunteering some time (usually 2-hour sessions) as a Time Out volunteer, or if you have any questions about Time Out, please call Bill or Jo Kramer at 480-982-4937.  Also, anyone who could use our services, please contact us.

WOODWORKERS CHIPS AND CHATTER 2020-2021 SEASON

The Woodshop is in full operation now under the Covid-19 rules.  Keep in mind, the use of masks and social distancing is required. The shop is open Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Monitors will provide assistance with your project or help you to safely operate the shop’s fine array of modern woodworking tools.

New and substitute monitors are always required.  We will be operating with a limited number of monitors, so if you are interested in being a monitor, leave your name with a monitor on duty, and training on the equipment will be provided.

New members are also always welcome. The cost of a membership is a nominal $20.00 for the season. There are several lady members who work in the shop so any woman interested in woodworking you would not be alone.

The Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser for the Woodshop, always a highlight for the woodworkers, unfortunately, will not be held this year.  At this time, the Woodshop is considering an online raffle as a fundraiser to continue updating our top of the line equipment.

Equipment updated last spring and over the summer include a Nova lathe.
