Getting ready to leave your winter home doesn’t have to be stressful. After a few times, you’ll have it down to a science and you’ll rest well knowing you’ve prepared your home for the heat, wind, the rain.  

Outside 

Check Skirting – Check for any loose openings and secure 

Patio – Cover and secure any outdoor furnishings including grills, outdoor heaters, etc. 

Golf Carts – Charge batteries and fill them with distilled water 

Awnings – Lower or secure 

Shut off Water – Leave irrigation water on if applicable, drain hoses and water features 

Shut off Power – Electricity should be shut off at the main breaker. Leave only necessary circuits on 

Shut off Propane – Turn off all propane bottles and unplug 

Inside 

Food – Remove all perishable food, remove, or store all non-perishable food 

Trash – Empty all garbage cans 

Unplug Appliances – Toasters, television, computer, microwave, etc. 

Adjust Thermostat – Set accordingly to prevent damage to walls & furnishing in the desert heat 

Humidity Control – Place several buckets or containers of water throughout the home to help with dryness.  

Drains – Place sealed bags of water over the sink and tub drains to deter insects 

Close & Lock – All doors, windows, skylights, and vents 

Front Office 

Check-Out – At the front office or utilize the online check-out form. 

Mailing Labels to the Front Office – Labels are for forwarding your 1st class mail only. The Front Office can print you a sheet of 30 labels for $2.50 

Post Office – Contact the U.S. or Canadian Post Office to update your mailing address 

Stop Deliveries/Subscriptions – Medications, Amazon, etc. 

Property Caretaker- Arrange for property caretaker and provide their information to the front office using the Property Caretaker Information form.
