FLAG ETIQUETTE

Flag Etiquette – Ever wonder why the flags are at half-mast or removed? Flags are sometimes lowered (half-mast) for important reasons, such as:

Mourning: Honoring the loss of national leaders, military personnel, or marking tragedies.
Respect & Remembrance: Memorial days like Veterans Day or Remembrance Day.
Severe Weather: Flags may be taken down to prevent damage and keep people safe.

Flags are often taken down during severe weather conditions for protection and preservation. Here are the main reasons:

Keeping Flags Safe: Strong winds, heavy rain, snow, or storms can tear, twist, or fade flags, making them wear out faster. Taking them down helps keep them in good shape.
Staying Safe: Flagpoles and parts of the flag can be dangerous in strong winds. A loose flag or broken pole could hurt people, damage buildings, or hit power lines.
